Obituaries

Chesapeake-Annie Banks was born on April 13, 1927 to the late Henderson and Emma Banks. She was the youngest of six children that included James Belcher, Leola Williams, Mary Belcher, Viola Owens and Catherine Dew. She departed this world on March 14, 2024 at 96 years old.

Born and raised in South Norfolk, Virginia, she worked in janitorial/custodial service for Truitt Jr. High School in Chesapeake for 35 years and retired with commendation from the Chesapeake School Board for service above and beyond. She also worked for Southside Florist for 12
years in Chesapeake.

Annie was a loving, dedicated and protective mother to her three sons and daughter. She loved the Lord and instilled this in her children. She loved music, cooking, eating out, floral arranging, doing hair, shopping at the malls and going to yard sales. Music was a big joy of her life. She taught herself to play the piano by ear and would often play and sing one of her favorite hymns - “What a Friend We Have In Jesus”. She was the matriarch of her neighborhood and was loved and respected by those who grew up with her children as well as those who moved into the neighborhood and developed a relationship with her over the years.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her siblings; and sons: Ralph “June” Banks, Larry “Nose” Banks and Paul “Mousey” Banks. She leaves to cherish her memory her lovely daughter, Pauline “Sister” Banks and her two daughters-in-law: Claudia Banks and Vinisha Banks; as well as her grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and many nephews, nieces and family friends. Annie was also an honorary mama, grandma and auntie to many who knew her. She was a beautiful beacon of light and life who touched everyone that knew her in a special way and we have treasured and fond memories of her that will live on forever in our hearts.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 am Tuesday; March 26, 2024 at Fitchett-Mann Funeral Services; 1146 Rodgers Street; Chesapeake, VA 23324. Viewing will be 4-6pm Monday; March 25, 2024.
